What are the precautions in the use of columnar activated carbon?

19,Nov 2024

Columnar activated carbon is widely used in water purification. It has the advantages of high utilization rate, obvious effect and low cost. Regarding how to use columnar activated carbon correctly, there are some points to pay attention to. The following are explained:

1. In water treatment, columnar activated carbon is not omnipotent.

Columnar activated carbon can adsorb a large amount of impurities, organic matter and compounds in water treatment. Practice has proved that columnar activated carbon has a strong adsorption effect. For color and odor, the removal effect of columnar activated carbon is not as strong as that of powdered activated carbon. There are many types of activated carbon for water treatment, and each type of activated carbon has certain unique advantages.

 2. Columnar activated carbon is not suitable for treating plating solution ions.

Columnar activated carbon is mostly made of coal products. During the firing process, the columnar activated carbon will carry zinc impurities. Studies have shown that during the purification process of the plating solution, it will react with zinc impurities, affecting the adsorption effect.

3. The iodine value and dosage should be distinguished.

Maybe everyone thinks that columnar activated carbon with high iodine value has strong adsorption capacity, and the dosage can basically meet the standard. In fact, the dosage of columnar activated carbon is more the better. If the standard is high, then the amount of columnar activated carbon should be relatively large, otherwise the effect will be poor.

 4. The pH value of the water should be appropriate.

Although columnar activated carbon can be used in acidic and alkaline water, its molecular characteristics make it react poorly in such water, which is not conducive to the adsorption of columnar activated carbon.

5. The carbon layer of columnar activated carbon is uniform and sufficient.

In a high-velocity water environment, undercurrents will occur, resulting in uneven hydraulic distribution. The uneven distribution of the columnar activated carbon layer can easily lead to poor filtration effects.
